BABAYLAN – Priestess or ShamanBabaylan is a Filipino word for priestess or women priests, or Shaman in other language. Babaylan used to be a prominent and respected figure in pre-colonial times in the Philippines. At present, it is still a struggle for women to be recognized and accepted for their invaluable role in society. This song is for all the women here who wants to rise and who will rise up for change against inequality and abuses. BAGYO – Storm Bagyo in Filipino is Storm. Since the Philippines is a tropical country, it is often visited by storms, and same with other countries. On a personal level, we also experience our own "storm." No matter how vulnerable we may be as long as we are determined, we will overcome our own storms. This is for all of us; we will overcome our personal storms! HIYAW – Shout or Cry Hiyaw in Filipino is shout or cry. Whenever there is injustice, such as land grabbing of their ancestral lands, there will always be people rising, to cry for justice. BUGAW – Pimp Bugaw means Pimp. The rising cost of living and unemployment pushes people to resort prostitution for survival or to meet one’s ends. MAYAD PAG SURIP – Good Morning In local dialect of Mangyan, a tribal group, Mayad Pagsurip means “Good Morning.” Who wouldn’t want to be awaken in awe and enjoy God’s given natural resources? Everybody is making a stand to fight climate change. And this is our dream, to wake up one day to a peaceful environment. ON POTOKON POTOK is song on rebellion by the indigenous group called Dumagat, against the abuse of their people's rights and lands. KABUKIRAN - Countryside Currently there are land disputes between farmers and landlords in our country. Farmers in the countryside are struggling and still fighting for the decade- long issue of genuine land reform. PAG-IBIG ANG PAG-ASA – Love is Hope The title says it all. Let us love, hope, inspire and be moved through culture and music! BATHALA – God. God gave us the earth and blessed us with beautiful surroundings. Sadly man, as caretaker failed to fulfill his job. This song asks for God to enlighten us, as caretakers of the earth, and to stop the destruction of natural resources. BUMANGON KAIGOROTAN – Rise Up Igorots This is another environmental song. It tackles the history how ancestral land of the local tribes are grabbed and converted for commercial use instead of agricultural use. The fight for right to land have been existing for decades especially in northern Philippines, where there is mining and land plunder. This song encourages Igorots and other tribes to stand up and fight for their lands. TALAHIB Our band’s name, of course, Talahib! Talahib in English is Grass. When brushed up against the skin, it leaves a distinct impression, just like our music, we hope to leave a distinct mark in your hearts and soul!
